Actress Priyanka Chopra has currently connected herself with Our Girls Our Pride, which is a new campaign for the empowerment of the girl child, in order to build social awareness about issues such as nutrition, education, health and female feticide in India.

Priyanka, who acts as a brand ambassador,launched the campaign by NDTV and natural resource group Vedanta on Monday.

She praised the tagline,”I think it’s a brilliant tagline. Our girls are our pride. Our nation worships women in the form of goddesses. We come from a nation where mother, daughter, sister and wife – every form of woman is revered,” she said in IANS.

“But it’s really sad to see how that India has started treating its girls,” she added.

In the 2011 census, it showed that the child sex ratio in India stands at 840 girls per 1000 boys. Priyanka said she is very shocked about this data.

“If you don’t have a girl child, how will you progress,” she asked.

The NDTV-Vedanta Our Girls Our Pride campaign aims to spread awareness and raise funds to make a positive impact on the lives of girls.

The channel will join hands with government departments, NGOs, schools and private organisations, for the sake of driving the momentum for the cause.
